wip 5 by EvanCampbell wip 5 by EvanCampbell
Not really much to see here but I did make some progress on this personal project. Finally finished the head sculpture and molded it. Simple two part plaster mold. Also pulled a silicone copy of the forehead area just for a quick paint test that shows some promise. Not sure yet if the final skin will be silicone or gelatin...probably silicone being that I will be stretching the head more. Now I have to make hands and some other elements to complete the concept.

This one is starting to get fun...although photographing it will be very difficult because I want to capture in camera effects that I am not sure will work.

Thanks...really nice compliment...I always like seeing others works in progress also. I always worry that I will take a wrong turn in front of people and wreck it :) lol

dear, that's... a wrong way of looking at it, imho. i think that being afraid of making a wrong turn is the most inhibiting feeling there is, and it's so misleading, as well. People are going to either like your art - or hate it - no matter what you do. You can never have everyone love it. And if that's inevitable - you're better off just doing your own thing. And that's before i even go into just how breathtaking your art is. I guess, to me it's a little painful to hear //you// talk about being afraid of making mistakes.

Oh I was not clear in my writing. I just don't want to screw up the work for myself...because how much time invested in it. I have been doing my own thing my whole life :)

I've done some mold-making and I've got to say yours are a thing of beauty compared to mine.

How do you do the molding? Do you have a mandrel to make the head-space for the wearer, or do you rotation or slush cast?

Thanks friend! Nothing special here just straight up brushing on plaster. No rigs or anything....all hand labor. :) I Will just rotate the mold and do it real simple.

Your molds are so beautiful, more beautiful than the sculpture even. I love your molds. Is it pure hydrocal or you have burlap?

rotokasting you use a brush and spread silicone?
Reply
:iconevancampbell:
EvanCampbell Featured By Owner Jul 6, 2012
Yes I will use a brush and spread it around and try to do a thin drip layer. I want to try and paint the viens from the inside of the skin and then slush more layers from inside.

USE A LOT OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND FAST ROTOKASTING .. SILICONE CATALYST AND AS SILICONE low viscosity in order to avoid POOBLEM with bubbles .... YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS? I HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH BUBBLES (
