Becoming an Artist by EvanCampbell Becoming an Artist by EvanCampbell
Since I have been getting notes for more Bio information early on, I thought I would put this up here. Made this originally for my own website...some photos I have uploaded here but others are unseen very early sculptures.

Wow. You inspire me, your work is amazing- even from such an early age. I am 19 and only just starting out practicing, I hope I can achieve quality work like yours one day.

Incredible story, how old are you now? I picked up my first block of clay at age 13 and found the world you did. [link] This was one of my first, I just want you to know you're work is the best detail I've ever seen...

I envy you so much. Wish I would have bin able to do tows things when I were a kid, back then I hardly knew anything about these things. When I was 12 I first notice that you actually can make movies yourself, and back then the effects I manage to do were a bloody shirt or a guy being thrown out from the third floor... but to make your own masks were still just a dream until i were 28!

I also did alot of the bloody shirt things too :). Thanks for writing...I think the fact that I got into a shop very early and was able to see advanced techniques was a huge help. Kind of just luck - appreciate you stopping by and sharing!

I'm hoping that my son will get the same interest as me and my fiancÚ in these things,if so, he might become a real master like you one day =)!
By the way, if you can I would appreciate if you would take a look on a thing I'm working on right now (I'm far from good at it) and maybe give me some helpful hints!? [link]

very cool. And now how does one get into the film industry and such...do you think much has changed...have you had to change, or evolve much with the changes of how fx are done now??

Thanks for sharing :) I was also quite ambitious from early on but too enthousiastic, uncritical, unpatient, unfocused.. I think ive only quite recently started being focused and artisticly insightful (critical), a bit like you seem there at age ten. I like In the Mouth of Madness.

Very awesome work. Inspirational too. I'm graduating with a BFA in Digital Animation this year. Daunting it is to look at the prospect of getting a career started, but I'm encouraged as of late.

You still haven't explained the part where you became AWESOME!!
How does that work?? You're a kid, sculpting away, and suddenly you're AWESOME! Or was it slower - did you just develop AWESOME and wake up one day and look at some of your work and go "holy SHIT!? what the HELL! That's AWESOME!"

Just kidding. Great posting! AWESOME.

Thanks for the Bio.

funny thing is when I was older I stayed at a certain level for such a long time where I have seem others make incredible progress in a much shorter period of time. So kind of a mixed bag in how we all develop our talent. I guess it not so much when you start, but how much hard focus and attention you put into it. I feel I have only in the last few years made more progress with what I am trying to do with my work :)

I think that's why I like looking back at older pieces, sometimes I don't see how much I've advanced until I've looked back at older pieces.

Excellent :) it's interesting to me how many in the business got started really young and knew what they wanted to do when most kids their age were still cringing when they saw a kiss on TV. I love the recommendation by Dick Smith, he's such a great man. Years ago when my shop burned down, he found out thru the grapevine and had a complete copy of his course put together and sent to me just to try and help out. All those formulas and resources would have been hard to do without. I've thought about this being the tail-end of that era too... very lucky indeed.

Thank you for sharing how you got started. You share a lot of the same feelings about creating art as I do.
It is a very magical/spiritual experience when either drawing or sculpting.

Ye...but other people thinks i'm a freak when I "stare" at everything xD pff...I study :P

Or they think I'm weird/childish cause I'm 19 and I like to draw...They ruined my sketchbook for fun...-_-
Well...they USED to think like that...but then I got better...now they're getting impressed^_^

haters gotta hate. most of them were probably jealous or something.

I like to draw too but I have absolutely no talent for it. besides why would it be childish to do something you like? though the bio is fairly interesting.

oh well. nevermind. sorry for the useless comment.
